Medway Labour Councillors are backing today’s Wear Red day, organised by the anti-racist charity Show Racism the Red Card.

Show Racism the Red Card are a group that challenge racism and discrimination in football and wider society, and you can read more about them here: https://www.theredcard.org/ourstory

Cllr Alex Paterson, Medway Labour and Cooperative Group representative for Rochester West, said: “For those of us who don’t face racism on a daily basis it’s easy to pretend that racism is something that’s been consigned to the history books.

“This is far from the case, as was demonstrated when young black England players were abused after taking their country to the final of the European Championships solely based on the colour of their skin

“If it can happen to them, then it can happen to anyone. And if you’re in denial of that fact, then you’re part of the problem”

Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader and Health Spokepserson of the Medway Labour and Co-op Group , added: “I want to use this day to remind everyone of the diverse workforce we have here in Medway in the NHS and other caring professions. We thank them, celebrate them and they will always have Labour’s support”
