Bright Future for White Road Community Centre

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Monday, local Labour councillors Julie Shaw, Paul Godwin and Vince Maple visited the White Road Community Centre to see how work was progressing on the centre’s redevelopment.
They had contributed several thousand pounds to the project, for both computing equipment and refurbishing the kitchen.
Whilst there they met Rosemary, who this week started work at the centre through the Future Jobs Fund scheme, the Government-funded programme to provide work for young people.
Cllr Shaw said,
“This centre has needed attention for years- it wasn’t fit for purpose and was a let-down for residents.  However, the hundreds of thousands of pounds from Europe and the Labour Government have completely transformed it, and it was great to see the playgroup in full swing today.”
Cllr Vince Maple said,
“It was also a pleasure to meet Rosemary on her first day at work.  She’s one of the first of over 400 to be employed through the Future Jobs Fund scheme in Medway, and I’m sure she’s going to enjoy working at the Community Centre.”
Cllr Paul Godwin added,
“We’ve been pleased that we could contribute some of our Ward Improvement Fund towards this.  People were working on the kitchen whilst we were here, and we believe the computers should be up and running in two to three weeks.”
