Tories Really
Don’t Know What They’re Doing
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
There was a very red face at Children’s Overview and
Scrutiny last night, as one of the Tory Portfolio holders couldn’t
say what job he did, or what responsibilities he had.
Cllr David Wildey was being held to account by the committee, but
was unable to give any relevant information, despite repeated
requests from all members of the committee.
Members commented that that he appeared very much like a junior
government minister, with the exception that a junior minister
would at least know what they were doing.
Cllr Bill Esterson said,
“I didn’t know whether to laugh, get angry or feel embarrassed for
him. Members gave him every chance to say what he did, but it
was hopeless, I gave up in the end.”
“He did talk about social workers, and he’s visited some of the
council’s care homes, but this is something all members do.
However, I have to question the point of the role and the ability
of the portfolio holder if he’s not able to give an account of what
he does. I would imagine the post was split because the
portfolio holder for Children’s Services couldn’t cope, but now we
have two people doing a bad job instead of one.”
“There’s also the issue of value for money. Cllr Wildey does
get a Special Responsibility Allowance for this role, and from his
performance on Tuesday it would appear taxpayers’ money is being
wasted.”
