Responding to the latest reports of parties in Downing Street during lockdown – including a ‘Bring Your Own Booze’ party which the Prime Minister and his wife are widely reported to have attended, Labour’s Vince Maple has called on local Tories to send a clear message to Conservatives in Downing Street.

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said:

“530 families in Medway lost loved ones because of Coronavirus in 2020. Countless more lost special moments – missed funerals, weddings and crucial life events. We now know that at the same time Boris Johnson, his wife and his team enjoyed boozy parties at No 10 during the lockdown.

“Now it is clear that while we suffered – while we all made huge sacrifices to follow the rules – Boris Johnson and his team were drinking and laughing away. They were laughing at us.

“After weeks of contemptuous lies, the Prime Minister has been caught red-handed. Think back to what you were doing in May 2020 –what you sacrificed, what you lost, what you and your loved ones missed. It is absolutely sickening.

“It once again shows that it’s one rule for them, and another rule for the rest of us.

“So today I am calling on senior Medway Conservatives to join me in condemning this disgusting behaviour, in demanding a full and honest account of what happened, and to call for an apology to every single one of us in Medway who has suffered over these last two years.”
