Cllr Alex Paterson (Rochester West)
Councillor for Rochester West

Alex took his seat in March 2018 at a by-election following the resignation of Kelly Tolhurst MP, winning with a 26.5% increase in Labour’s share of the vote.
Since then he has campaigned to protect local cultural institutions, supported the setup of green spaces friends groups and spearheaded a successful battle to stop hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money being wasted every year for a decade subsidising the poorly-run Castle Concerts.
He first got involved in local campaigning in 2009 when he and other parents at a Rochester school overturned the Tory-run council’s decision to close it. Alex is a former journalist and worked for the Daily Mirror and its sister titles for 20 years. He is Chair of Medway Co-operative Party and currently works as a Communications Officer. He lives in Rochester with his wife and two children.
