The Medway Labour and Co-operative Group have announced that local teacher David Hodges will be their candidate for the forthcoming byelection in the Peninsula ward following the sad death of Cllr Mick Pendergast.

David is a local teacher who was born in Medway, and lives here with his two teenage sons. David is passionate about education, attended the Maths school and is a parent governor there today in the same Academy Trust as the Hundred of Hoo school. In his spare time he enjoys football and music, and is also part of a local band.

Deputy Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Teresa Murray said: “David has been working with our Labour team on improving access to GP and pharmacy services across Medway and is very aware of the difficulties people on the Peninsula are facing especially with access to out of hours  pharmacy services.”

Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Vince Maple added: “This is clearly a by-election that nobody wants to have needed. We were all shocked at the untimely passing of Mick Pendergast. He was someone who was dedicated to being a voice for the local community. As our Labour Candidate David will be a strong advocate for the communities across the ward.  We know that residents across the Peninsula are concerned about the cost of living crisis due to the Conservatives crashing the economy.”

Medway Labour and Co-operative Candidate for the Peninsula Ward David Hodges said : “I know having brought my family up in Medway how important it is to get access to the right healthcare at the right time. Residents across the Peninsula rightly expect to be able to get a GP appointment when needed. If I’m elected I’ll work closely with Cllr Murray to get further improvements and make sure the task group recommendations are taken forward.”
