Medway Labour & Co-operative Group voted for Medway Council to adopt the full IHRA definition of Anti-Semitism at Full Council on Thursday 23rd January.
I hope that the cross-party support for this motion sends a powerful message that Anti-Semitism has no place in our communities, and demonstrates to our Jewish friends that we stand in solidarity with them Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Labour & Co-op Group
Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Labour & Co-op Group said, ‘I am really pleased to support this motion which will see Medway Council adopt the IHRA definition of Anti-Semitism.
‘This is an especially important time to be taking action and standing in solidarity with our Jewish communities. Anti-Semitism has risen sharply in the UK and across Europe, with a 10% increase in reported offenses in 2019. Here in Medway we’ve seen a disgusting Anti-Semitic attack on Chatham Memorial Synagogue, and back in 2018 horrible Anti-Semitic graffiti left on Jackson’s field, which has been undoubtedly traumatic for the Jewish community.
‘The theme for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is “Stand Together”, and I hope that the cross-party support for this motion sends a powerful message that Anti-Semitism has no place in our communities, and demonstrates to our Jewish friends that we stand in solidarity with them.’
