Councillors from Medway’s Labour and Co-operative Group have welcomed Keir Starmer’s keynote speech on the final day of the Labour conference.

In his speech, Starmer outlined how the principles of ‘work, care, equality and security’ are the British values that have shaped his life and will be at the heart of the next Labour government, showing why he is a Prime Minister in waiting.

Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group, said “Keir’s speech was Labour at our best. Strong, determined, and completely connected with the experiences and hopes of ordinary people. I am confident we can win locally and nationally with the promises and policies Keir was offering”.

Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Labour’s Spokesperson for Community and the Environment, said “This speech shows more than ever that this country can indeed have strong and confident leadership that understands how to support local communities, rebuild a damaged economy and deliver an impressive environmental agenda”.

Cllr Vince Maple, leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group, added “This Labour Party Conference has been very positive, showing we are listening carefully to communities like Medway as we begin to build our policy platform for government”

“I was very pleased to address the conference highlighting the positive role Labour Councillors have played throughout the pandemic, working at the heart of our community, at this most challenging of times”.
