Ahead of the 2023 Medway Council elections, the Medway Labour and Cooperative Group are encouraging members of the community to put themselves forward to be a Labour candidate. The Group will be organising 3 public meetings to inform interested members of the public about the process of becoming a Councillor, and to answer any questions that they may have.

Following the Strood North by-election, the Medway Labour Group reached the highest number of Councillors they’ve had in two decades – with the local elections coming in 2023 they are preparing to deliver change for working families across Medway. 

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Cooperative Group, said: 

“The challenging times recently have shown the true value of public service. Ordinary people have all chipped in to keep our country operating through this difficult period. Your Medway Labour Councillors fight on behalf of these people, and we want those who share our values of work, care, equality and security to join us in serving our community”

Cllr Naushabah Khan, representative for Gillingham South added:                  

“We hope these sessions will provide understanding of what the role entails, and to encourage anyone with the desire to stand for us, win an election, and help change Medway.”

The dates of the Become a Councillor sessions are as follows:

Saturday 23rd October  (11am -1pm) All Potential Candidates

Wednesday 27th October (7pm) Potential Women Candidates 

Location: Rochester Labour Office, 73 Maidstone Road, Rochester ME1 1RL 

Saturday 30th October (1.30pm – 3pm) Potential Black and Ethnic Minority Candidates

Sunday 12th December (1pm) All potential candidates
