Councillors from the Medway Labour Co-operative Group have reacted to the publication of Sue Gray’s report which has further exposed the failures of Downing Street to abide by its own Coronavirus regulations.

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said:

“People across Medway missed funerals, stayed away from dying relatives, missed family occasions and ultimately did the right thing at the time of national emergency.

“The Sue Gray report shows at the same time a truly disgraceful, disrespectful and dishonest culture led by Boris Johnson who misled Parliament and the whole country.

“Every day he remains in office is another stain on this country, if he won’t resign then backbenchers like Medway’s Tracey Crouch, Rehman Chishti and Kelly Tolhurst must hand in letters of no confidence. Anything less shows their interests are not in decency and their residents who have done the right thing throughout but backing their lying boss.“

Cllr Mark Prenter, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Councillor for Twydall added:

“Sue Gray’s report has shown the true scale of rule breaking in Number 10, and it is sickening.

“I’ve been on record about the personal sacrifices my family had to make during the lockdowns, not being able to see a loved one as they passed away. These kinds of tragic experiences were shared by many across Medway and by many across the country, all while they were partying in number 10.”

“We have an unprecedented situation where a serving Prime Minister has broken the law, yet our local Conservative MP’s have still not yet acted to remove him. Their inability to do the right thing is shameful.”
