The following New Year’s message was written by Vince Maple on behalf of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group.

As we head towards the New Year this is a time to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future.

We have been badly let down by our Prime Minister and Government repeatedly breaking the rules which they have set for all of us.  This would be bad at any time, but whilst we continue to battle the global pandemic it really has felt like one rule for them and one rule for the rest of us.

Their poor, potentially illegal behaviour shouldn’t detract from the phenomenal effort made by residents here in Medway to get through this most difficult of times.

Your Medway Labour and Co-operative Councillors will continue to support you, your families and the communities across Medway.

The year ahead we will continue to fight to save jobs at Chatham Docks, highlight the lack of a local plan, give the NHS the support it needs, tackle the housing crisis, do all we can to impact on the climate emergency, make sure vulnerable children are getting the services they need as well as working hard on building our team of 59 candidates for the 2023 Medway Council election where we can bring the change our communities so desperately needs.

We have all made so many sacrifices to keep each other safe and I want to say thank you to every one of you for following the rules. I only wish I could say the same of this Government.

On behalf of the Medway Labour & Co-operative team I wish you a happy, healthy and safe 2022.
