This week, Keir Starmer demonstrated that under a Labour Government we would have support at a national level for the climate action we need to take at local level. A Labour Government would provide the funding and the infrastructure for a new green economy in Medway, through its investment pledge which would guarantee £28 billion a year for the country as part of a green growth plan.

Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Spokesperson for Regeneration, Culture and Environment said:

“Here in Medway we have been leading the way on sustainable development and the climate crisis. It was our leader Vince Maple who called for the declaration of the climate emergency. The redevelopment of Medway must be sustainable, affordable and climate friendly and our Climate Conversations across all our communities is giving local people a voice on these issues.”

Cllr Zoe Van Dyke, Member for Strood North added:

“The climate emergency is a key priority for us, and we’re inviting everyone to our next climate conservation in Rainham, where you’ll be able to voice your own opinion and hear about our plan to deliver for Medway on environmental issues.”

Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party said:

“It is possible to tackle climate change by creating new jobs, new industries, and new opportunities. By doing this we can grow the economy and raise living standards for everyone, not just a privileged few.”
