The Medway Labour and Co-operative Group have submitted their comments on the Hoo Development Framework. They have made several recommendations to the Council, which include calling for a new, modern electric bus transport system operating between Strood and the Peninsula. The full response from the Labour Group can be read in the document attached.

Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Spokesperson for Regeneration, Culture and the Environment said:

“Local residents have long complained about poor transport connections to and from the Peninsula. As a Labour Group, we’re now calling for the introduction of an efficient electric bus service operating between the communities on the peninsula and Strood station. We propose a new transport hub at Strood station, linking the communities to Medway, London, Maidstone and the coast. This would be a much more sustainable and cost-effective use of the funding that was originally earmarked for a potential limited-service shuttle train line from Sharnal Street to Gravesend.”

David Hodges, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group candidate in the upcoming Peninsula by-election added:

“As Labour’s candidate on the Peninsula, I’m supportive of the comments that have been submitted by Medway Labour and Co-operative councillors. Particularly pleasing is the recognition that the Peninsula and North Kent Marshes should be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a classification that many have been calling for for a long time.”
