There will be a public rally ahead of the Full Council meeting of Medway Council next Thursday 21st July . The demonstration, which has been organised by the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group, will be to protest the cost-of-living crisis that is spiralling out of control due to Conservative mismanagement.
Members of the public and trades unions are being encouraged to join the protest march which will start at Gun Wharf at 5.30pm and end at the St. George’s Centre with a rally and speakers before Labour councillors put forward a motion asking the Council to demand more government action to ease the cost of living crisis.
Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said:
“We invite the public to join us on this extremely important demonstration and help us put pressure on Tory Medway council to support Labour’s motion at this Full Council meeting to start lobbying the government and our local MPs to bring about an emergency budget. Out of control inflation, energy costs and tax rises on working people are all contributing to the worst cost-of-living crisis in decades, and we need to do all we can to try and fix this situation. The Tories in government are obsessed with their own internal strife and are leaving voters to struggle with rocketing prices.
Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group added:
“Research has shown your typical Medway family is £2624 worse off because of this cost-of-living crisis, which itself is a consequence of 12 years of Tory mismanagement of our energy and economic policy. The current fashion parade of potential Conservative Party leaders does nothing to help tackle this crisis. We need to make our voices heard to send the clearest message that our community deserves better than the current Tory controlled council and government. I invite all concerned members of the public to join us outside Gun Wharf at 5.30pm next Thursday.”
