GCSE pupils across Medway are receiving their exam results today.

Cllr Clive Johnson, Medway Labour & Co-operative Spokesperson for Children and Young People said, ‘Congratulations to the hardworking students and teachers that have made results day a success.

‘Every year schools and their pupils are expected to do more with less, and it’s alarming to see schools being starved of funding unnecessarily under Tory austerity.

‘I pay tribute to the staff and pupils who have accomplished so much in the midst of a funding crisis. Since 2010 overall school funding has decreased by 8%, on top of which schools must find money for additional costs forced on them by the government, costs such as the apprenticeship levy and the recently announced pay increases for teachers which will be funded primarily by schools themselves.

‘Our schools require support and our children deserve to be invested in; where the Tories build barriers towards education, Labour will build bridges.’
