Medway Students Receive GCSE Results Today

GCSE students across Medway have received their results today. Results have been awarded on the basis of teacher assessments that have been quality assured.

Cllr Clive Johnson, Medway Labour and Co-operative Shadow Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said:

“For Medway’s GCSE students, this year has been another incredibly difficult year.  Once again, the Conservative Secretary of State for Education dithered and sowed confusion about how this year’s qualifications would be conducted.  Students should be proud of what they have achieved despite the challenges they have faced.  They have worked hard, and these results highlight the ambition and dedication students, teachers and educational leaders have shown over the past two challenging years.

“I pay tribute to the staff and pupils who have accomplished so much.  Since 2010, school funding has decreased in real terms by 8%.  These cuts are unsustainable and I call on the government to put education at the heart of the response to the pandemic and deliver on their manifesto pledges to address inequality and support the future of our young people.”

Cllr Vince Maple, Medway Labour and Co-operative Leader, said:

“My congratulations to everyone who has received exam results this week in the most challenging on circumstances.

“Along with hard working pupils, teachers and parents have also played a vital role.

“Whatever results you have achieved, it’s a really good idea to get the right advice and guidance about the next steps.

“Moving forward we must see a clear plan for other students whose studies have been impacted by CoVid19. I don’t believe Gavin Williamson is the person to deliver that plan for young people.”
