The Medway Labour and Co-operative Group hosted a cost-of-living summit at Gun Wharf yesterday, engaging with various local volunteer organisations about how as a community we can take action to help those struggling most during this economic crisis.

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said:

“In my role as a Councillor, I’ve unfortunately been seeing the terrible effects this economic crisis has been having on Medway residents. Addressing the cost-of-living crisis is therefore the foremost priority of our Group.

“We met with various different local organisations yesterday in order to facilitate important discussions about how we can work together as a community to help those in need at the moment. Yesterday’s meeting made me proud to represent an area with so many great volunteers who are stepping up to help others during these difficult times.”

Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group added:

“It’s unfortunate that we have a Tory group in control of the Council who refused to sign our motion calling on the government to do more to address the economic problems our community is suffering from at the moment. The increased disarray and turmoil we’re now enduring because of Liz Truss’ shambolic mini-budget has only made the need for strong action on this more clear.

“We will do all we can from opposition to represent those struggling right now, but will be able to do much more if people choose change and choose Labour in next year’s elections.”
