The government has announced that Kent will be given £2.6m for planning for a no-deal Brexit, with Medway receiving just £70,000.

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said, ‘There’s no doubt in my mind that a no-deal Brexit will be a complete disaster for Kent.

‘What exactly the government thinks  Medway can do with this money is a mystery; £70k is peanuts, especially this close to the deadline, and compared to the £1.9bn already spent by the government.

‘On top of this, we have the ludicrous situation where the Leader of the Council has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of preparing Medway for any kind of Brexit.

‘Such a small amount of money for Medway’s no-deal planning would be laughable if the situation wasn’t so serious.’
