In an effort to prevent development in the Capstone Valley area, Medway Council has rejected the sale of land which could provide access to a new housing development.

Cllr Vince Maple, Councillor for Chatham Central and Leader of the Medway Labour Group said, ‘It’s disappointing that the Conservative Cabinet didn’t unanimously reject the proposal to sell off a ransom strip for Capstone Valley but it’s positive that the majority did reject the suggestion. The Labour Group have consistently argued alongside local residents for the protection of Capstone Valley.’

Cllr Andy Stamp, Councillor for Gillingham North and Medway Labour Spokesperson for Regeneration and Communities said, ‘This decision has frustrated the proposed development in Capstone Valley, but there is still a very real possibility that the housing development will go ahead regardless. It’s worrying that some of the Cabinet support the sale of this land, which would open up Capstone Valley for development. The Conservative Cabinet must use all available democratic processes to protect vital green spaces such as Capstone.’
