The Medway Labour and Co-operative Group have highlighted the failures of the local Conservative Group regarding climate change during the last two weeks as further evidence of the need for change in Medway ahead of our second public climate conversation in Medway.

Cllr Tris Osborne, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Spokesperson for Community Safety:

“Events over the last fortnight show the Conservatives are completely unfit to deal with the scale of the challenge posed by climate change. If their failure to support our fossil fuel divestment motion wasn’t enough evidence of their ineptitude, Alan Jarrett seemingly boasting to Nigel Farage on GB News about how little the Council spends on environmental issues has made it fully clear that they are incapable and unwilling to take the bold action required to protect our local area and our planet from harm.”

Cllr Zoe Van Dyke, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Member for Strood North said:

“The choice at the next election could not be clearer. We either continue with this Tory Council where a prominent Cabinet member made his love for fracking known recently, or the people of Medway can choose a Labour alternative which puts the climate emergency as one of our key priorities.

Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Labour and Co-operative Group Spokesperson for Regeneration, Culture and the Environment added:

“After the success of our first public climate conversation in Strood, we’ll now be heading to Gillingham in May to once again engage with the public on this extremely pressing issue and put forward how we plan to succeed in making Medway a modern, dynamic and green area.”
