Rochester Grammar School will benefit from the selective schools expansion fund, but more money is desperately needed for all schools in Medway.

Cllr Clive Johnson, Medway Labour Spokesperson for Children and Young People said, ‘Medway Labour welcomes any investment in local schools and we’re hopeful that the extra funding will be put to good use.

‘Unfortunately this level of support is not being made available to all schools in Medway. The funding has been ring-fenced for use by grammar schools, but there are twice as many non-selective secondary schools in Medway (not including alternative provision) than there are grammar schools, and many more Medway children attend these non-selective schools.

‘The money allocated for schools in the recent government budget (earmarked for ‘little extras’ by the Chancellor) is nowhere near enough to give our children the education they deserve. At a time when school budgets are under such immense pressure Medway Labour calls for a scaling up of funding initiatives to encompass all schools, so that all Medway students can benefit from a good education.’
