Attending a rally in support of the staff recently dismissed by P&O Ferries, the Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group has spoken out against the unjust behavior of the company.

Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of the Medway Labour and Co-operative Group said:

“It’s difficult to find words strong enough to describe how reprehensible P&O Ferries treatment of their hard-working staff has been. To fire staff with no notice by video message would be completely unacceptable even in the best of economic climates, but to do it in the context of record energy prices, increasing taxation and inflation is absolutely outrageous.

“It is worth noting that the company was happy to accept government support during the Co-Vid 19 crisis and this decision is the payback.

“The Medway Labour Group stands in solidarity with those hard working women and men impacted by this announcement and I call on the parent company DP World to reverse their decision and go into urgent talks with the government and trade unions to find ways of ensuring a positive future at their operations in Dover and other ports across the country.”
