Cllr Stephen Hubbard has submitted a petition asking Medway Council to implement a 20mph zone in ‘central’ Strood, as well as consider making some narrower roads into a one-way system.

Cllr Stephen Hubbard, Councillor for Strood North said, I am keen to have a common-sense approach to traffic control along several of the older streets in Strood North, that have little if no off-street parking, so as to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce risk of injury to drivers.

On some roads parked vehicles line both sides of the street, and people often driven at speed to get through these sections of the street before someone comes the other way. There is an alarming increase in the number of road rage incidents occurring. Residents are getting nervous about using these roads both as drivers and pedestrians, and this is a simple and cost effective method to ensure better road safety.

Cllr Hubbard: “Pedestrian safety is a top priority for our Strood roads. Recent council works on Gun Lane, at the pinch point, have made a pavement that is narrower than my width. I can turn sideways to walk on by, but a baby buggy or wheelchair has to be pushed onto the road surface, with its obvious dangers. I am pursuing the matter."
