Medway Labour Councillors are angry at the complete gridlock which has been found in Strood Town Centre

Stephen Hubbard, Labour Councillor for Strood North said “This situation is totally unacceptable. I’ve been contacted by a resident, travelling Strood bound, who joined a near stationary traffic jam on Rochester’ Corporation Street, just past Star Hill, at 11am and crawled for some two & half hours to get to Strood’s Station Rd junction and got traffic free north of the town centre.

But to the south of the town centre the traffic was in utter deadlock. Customers that made it to Morrisons supermarket then found themselves taking forever to leave the shop’s car park.

And this not the first time this has happened to Strood. Similar happened in 2014 with traffic deadlock – a drop in business activity when the Tory run council closed A228’s Darnley Arch & roundabout. Will the council ever learn?”

Andy Stamp, Medway Labour spokesperson for Regeneration & Community added “Once again we see the Medway Tories failing to manage key projects effectively. Everyone wants to see our town centres supported and regenerated but scenes like we have seen this weekend will undoubtedly damage both the local economy and environment.”
